In July 1974 a young woman was found murdered deep in the remote dunes of Provincetown, Massachusetts. For nearly fifty years her identity remained a mystery. Frank Durant's 2022 documentary dives deep into the mystery of the Lady of the Dunes case through the eyes of those who were there at the time. There is insight into who she might have been, who might have been involved in her murder, how the case could be solved, and the overall stage that was Cape Cod in the 1960s and 70s.
On October 31, 2022, the longest unsolved murder mystery in Massachusetts received a huge revelation. For nearly 50 years a Jane Doe that had been found deep in the Province Lands dunes in Provincetown, Massachusetts had been known simply as The Lady of the Dunes. She was finally identified as Ruth Marie Terry born in Tennessee. Producer Frank Durant worked extensively on a documentary about The Lady of the Dunes murder mystery. It was released in April 2022 and has been widely praised. Durant was interviewed for the In My Footsteps Podcast on Episode 62 where he discussed the case and the documentary's potential involvement in breaking new information about the case. Here Frank is interviewed again as we chronicle a visit to the actual site where Ruth Marie Terry was found, as well as her gravesite in Provincetown. Has anything changed when it comes to Frank, the documentary, and its effect on the resolution of this decades-old case?
When it comes to infamous Cape Cod true crime there are two names that immediately spring to mind. Tony Costa and the Lady of the Dunes. In March 2022 film director Frank Durant and author Christopher Setterlund made a trip to the Outer Cape. There they were met by two renowned and popular mediums, Steven the Medium, and the Cape Cod Happy Medium Susan Ahearn. The goal of the trip was for the mediums to attempt to connect with those associated with both infamous names. The result is this video. On July 26, 1974 a young woman was found in a remote area of the Province Lands dunes in Provincetown, Massachusetts. She had been brutally and savagely murdered and left there to rot in the scorching summer sun. In the nearly half-century since the event itself the woman has never been identified, instead she was given the moniker 'Lady of the Dunes.' A new documentary by producer Frank Durant, as well as an upcoming book by author Christopher Setterlund, explore in detail the unsolved case of the Lady of the Dunes. There is an emphasis on the' why's' of the case, specifically why it hasn't been solved in nearly fifty years. There is also a deep look at how most of what is publicly known about the case is misleading with Durant's film and Setterlund's book being able to dig deeper thanks to the efforts of many who had been close to the case, or Provincetown as a whole. This video serves as a brief look at the Lady of the Dunes case as well as the intentions behind the film and book. The Lady of the Dunes documentary will be available on DVD in September 2022 and for rent on video on demand shortly thereafter. The book is tentatively set to be published in early 2023.
